Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an important time to recognize those affected by breast cancer, celebrate survivors, honor loved ones, and support organizations working to improve care, research, and resources for patients and their families.

Here on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and throughout the South Bay, several local organizations and businesses are finding meaningful ways to bring the community together this October.

One of the area’s annual traditions returns to Terranea Resort this month with the 12th Annual Birdies for Breast Cancer event. Taking place Sunday, October 4, the event begins with a 9:00 AM shotgun start at The Links at Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes. Participants can enjoy a morning of golf along the coast, along with food, beverages, and a silent auction.

Proceeds from the event benefit Cancer Support Community South Bay, an organization that provides programs and support services to individuals and families impacted by cancer at no cost. With its oceanfront setting and community-focused mission, Birdies for Breast Cancer offers a memorable way to spend a Sunday morning while supporting an important local cause.

Each October, Terranea Resort recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month through its annual Terranea Turns Pink campaign. The month-long initiative combines pink-themed touches throughout the property with special events, select resort offerings, and fundraising efforts that support breast cancer awareness, research, and patient care.

Past programming has included specialty dining and cocktails, spa experiences, golf, resort activities, pink lighting and displays, and other select offerings that contribute a portion of proceeds to breast cancer-related organizations. This year’s events also include an evening of dueling pianos and a silent auction, bringing together entertainment and charitable giving in a distinctly South Bay setting.

Terranea Turns Pink is a meaningful example of how a local destination can use its space and community presence to raise awareness and support organizations serving those impacted by breast cancer.

Rock Your Pink in Redondo Beach

Cancer Support Community South Bay is kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Rock Your Pink on October 1 in Redondo Beach. The event brings the community together for an evening of live music while raising funds for programs that support individuals and families affected by cancer.

Proceeds help Cancer Support Community South Bay continue offering free resources, educational programs, and emotional support to people navigating a cancer diagnosis. It is a lively way to start the month while contributing to an organization that serves families throughout the South Bay.

Later this month, Cancer Support Community South Bay will host its annual Girls Night Out event at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach. Taking place over three evenings, October 20 through 22, the event combines comedy, food, drinks, and fundraising in support of local cancer services.

The event offers another opportunity to enjoy a night out while helping fund programs available to cancer patients and their loved ones throughout the South Bay. Its combination of entertainment and charitable giving makes it a popular community event during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Find more details here.

The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the Pink Patch Project throughout October. As part of the effort, some officers will wear pink department patches to help bring greater visibility to breast cancer awareness and support.

Community members can also purchase a pink patch for $10 in the Police Department lobby, with payment accepted by cash or Venmo. Proceeds will support breast cancer research and patient support programs through the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and the Palos Verdes Estates Police Officers Association will match donations up to $500.

Residents who would like to purchase a patch can also contact the Police Officers Association directly by email. It is a simple, local way to support an important cause while helping raise awareness throughout the community.

Supporting Our South Bay Community

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder of how many families in our own neighborhoods have been touched by cancer. Whether it is attending a fundraising event, purchasing a pink patch, supporting a local organization, or simply checking in on someone going through treatment, there are many ways to make a difference.

As a longtime resident and real estate professional in the Palos Verdes community, I am continually grateful to see our local organizations, businesses, and neighbors come together to support causes that matter.

To everyone affected by breast cancer, including patients, survivors, caregivers, families, and friends, our South Bay community stands with you this October and throughout the year.
